The Kansas City Royals hold a 68-90 record late in the 2026 season following numerous pitching injuries to key starters, including Cole Ragans, Stephen Kolek, and Luinder Avila. After acquiring right-handed pitcher Randy Dobnak from the Seattle Mariners for cash considerations in mid-June, Kansas City called upon the 31-year-old to step into a starting rotation role.
Dobnak has registered a 3.08 ERA since joining the Royals' rotation, returning to regular major-league starting duties for the first time since 2020. Despite possessing a 1.33 WHIP and a 4.18 FIP, Dobnak is positioned to potentially contribute to Kansas City's pitching depth for the 2027 season alongside veterans Michael Wacha and Seth Lugo.
