The Kansas City Royals announced several Minor League awards on Monday, naming Brett Squires as the George Brett Hitter of the Year. Squires was also honored with the Mike Sweeney Community Impact Award. The 26-year-old infielder and outfielder split his season between Double-A and Triple-A, hitting .277 with a .901 OPS across both levels.

Over the course of the season, Squires amassed 68 extra-base hits, including 31 home runs, alongside 103 RBI and 24 stolen bases. Due to his Rule 5 Draft eligibility this offseason, the Royals must decide whether to add Squires to their 40-man roster or risk losing him.
