Rugby player’s murder trial: Sentences of 20 and 27 years sought by prosecutors

The trial regarding the 2022 killing of former Argentina rugby international Federico Martín Aramburú has reached its final stage in France. Prosecutors are seeking prison sentences of 27 and 20 years for defendants Loïk Le Priol and Romain Bouvier, who are accused of the premeditated murder of the former Pumas player in Paris. The incident followed an altercation where Aramburú reportedly intervened in a dispute involving the suspects.

Additional defendants Lyson Rochemir and Antony Sorrentino are accused of assisting the primary suspects in their escape. While the prosecution argues the killing was premeditated, the defense claims the defendants acted in self-defense without the intent to kill. Aramburú, who earned 22 caps for Argentina and played for clubs including Biarritz Olympique and Glasgow Warriors, died at the scene. The court is expected to deliver its verdict tomorrow.
