PREVIEW: South African eyes will be on Galway, Johannesburg, Durban and Parma this weekend as the Stormers, Lions, Sharks and Bulls launch their Vodacom United Rugby Championship campaigns.
The 2026/27 United Rugby Championship season begins this weekend with all four South African franchises in action. The Stormers will face Connacht in Galway on Friday, while Saturday's fixtures feature the Lions hosting defending champions Leinster in Johannesburg, the Sharks welcoming Ospreys to Durban, and the Bulls traveling to face Zebre Parma in Italy.
Stormers winger Leolin Zas is set to make his 100th appearance for the club during the opening match. Several Springbok players will miss the opening rounds due to mandatory rest following the Rugby Championship, allowing new signings and emerging players to feature.
