Kings’ trade problems with Domantas Sabonis aren’t surprising or new

The Sacramento Kings are reportedly looking to move on from forward Domantas Sabonis, but lingering trade concerns regarding his market value have complicated potential deals. Although the Kings explored trade options during the 2025 offseason under general manager Scott Perry, through the 2026 trade deadline, and into the 2026 offseason, the franchise is currently expected to stick with him for the time being.

While Sabonis remains an elite offensive facilitator and rebounder who consistently produces double-doubles, Sacramento's heightened emphasis on defense has raised doubts about his fit in the roster's rebuild. Consequently, perceived limitations surrounding his defensive capabilities have negatively impacted his trade value across the league.
