The Tampa Bay Rays have selected the major league contract of right-handed pitcher Jake Woodford. In a corresponding move, right-hander Mason Englert was optioned to Triple-A Durham, filling the remaining vacancy on Tampa Bay's 40-man roster.
Woodford joined the Rays organization on a minor league contract in August after parting ways with the Chicago Cubs. With Tampa Bay having secured the top seed in the American League, Woodford provides a fresh bullpen arm to manage workload before the postseason.
