The Atlanta Braves placed left-handed starting pitcher Martín Pérez on the 15-day injured list due to lower back inflammation just six days before the postseason. Manager Walt Weiss stated that the 35-year-old felt the injury during his start against the Houston Astros on Sunday. The Braves announced that right-handed pitcher Elieser Hernández will be added to the active roster.
Pérez, who has posted a 3.04 ERA this season, is ruled out for the remainder of the regular season and the Wild Card round. Atlanta hopes he could potentially return as early as Game 3 of the NLDS on October 6, while Chris Sale and Tyler Mahle are slated to lead the postseason rotation.
