Penix threw for 256 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in his first start since Week 11 of the 2025 season. Head coach Kevin Stefanski expressed emotion following the win, stating, "I'm proud of him."

Penix had been eased back into action, only gaining clearance for 11-on-11 drills in late August after Cooper Rush started the opening two games. He was supported in his debut by teammates Bijan Robinson, who rushed for 194 yards, and Drake London, who added 194 receiving yards.
