The bad news? The Rays lost again. The good news? Well, it didn’t matter and they leave the Bronx healthy with three games remaining in the regular season. At the end of the day, what really matters at this point…

The New York Yankees defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 6-4 on Thursday night in the Bronx. Tampa Bay initially built a 4-0 lead behind five scoreless innings from starter Ian Seymour, who allowed only one hit. Run-scoring singles from Yandy Diaz and Junior Caminero, alongside an RBI groundout by Liam Hicks, supplied the early offense against Yankees pitchers Cam Schlitter and Michael Fulmer.
The game shifted once the Rays went to their bullpen, with Jake Woodford and Hopkins surrendering the lead before Matz allowed a decisive two-run home run to Lombard Jr. in the eighth inning. Despite the defeat dropping their record to 96-63, the Rays had previously clinched the AL East and the top playoff seed, resting their high-leverage relievers ahead of their final regular season series against the Philadelphia Phillies.
