Seymour shuts down Yankees in audition for Rays’ ALDS roster

Tampa Bay Rays left-hander Ian Seymour strengthened his bid for an ALDS roster spot by tossing five scoreless innings, allowing just one hit, during a 6-4 loss to the New York Yankees on Thursday. Manager Kevin Cash stated the team has not yet finalized its postseason starting rotation ahead of Game 1 on October 3. Rays relievers subsequently conceded six runs as Tampa Bay dropped to a 96-63 record.

With multiple off-days in the ALDS schedule, Tampa Bay expects to require only three primary starters, with Drew Rasmussen, Nick Martinez, and Freddy Peralta viewed as the leading candidates. Shane McClanahan is unlikely to return for the first round, leaving Seymour and Griffin Jax as potential bullpen or bulk-relief options. Since early June, Seymour has posted a 3.91 ERA across 101 1/3 innings.
