Indiana legend Steve Alford to retire after upcoming season at Nevada

Nevada men's basketball head coach Steve Alford announced he will retire following the 2026-27 season, concluding a 36-year sideline career. The 61-year-old enters his eighth season with the Wolf Pack, where he has compiled a 137-88 record and reached two NCAA Tournaments. Across his head coaching career, which includes tenures at Manchester College, Missouri State, Iowa, New Mexico, and UCLA, Alford holds a 724-386 overall record.

Before coaching, Alford starred as a player at Indiana, winning an Olympic gold medal in 1984 and leading the Hoosiers to the 1987 national championship. A two-time first-team All-American, he scored 2,438 career college points and played four NBA seasons before beginning his coaching career at age 26.
