Sharks name Macklin Celebrini youngest captain in NHL

The San Jose Sharks named 20-year-old center Macklin Celebrini as their new team captain on Friday, making him the youngest captain in the NHL in nearly a decade. Former captain Joe Thornton presented Celebrini with his jersey during a team meeting. Celebrini becomes the franchise's 13th captain and their first since Logan Couture, ending a two-season span without a captain.

At 20 years and 104 days old, Celebrini is the youngest NHL captain since Connor McDavid was named captain of the Edmonton Oilers in 2016. In July, Celebrini signed a five-year, $94 million contract extension running through 2031-32. He recorded 45 goals, 70 assists, and 115 points last season, finishing fourth in Hart Trophy voting.
