As a result, the Padres clinched home-field advantage for the wild-card round, where they are scheduled to host the fifth-seeded Chicago Cubs.

San Diego's offense featured a three-run home run from Manny Machado in the fourth inning and a solo homer from Xander Bogaerts in the fifth. Jackson Merrill contributed an early RBI single and scored multiple runs, while Arizona's James McCann briefly gave the Diamondbacks a 4-3 lead with a two-run homer off Padres starter Walker Buehler.
