Asking to leave Liverpool is my biggest regret – I made the wrong decision

Former Liverpool forward Anthony Le Tallec revealed that requesting a loan move away from the club in July 2004 remains the biggest regret of his career. Seeking regular playing time, the French attacker asked manager Rafael Benitez to let him join Saint-Etienne on loan, a decision that angered the manager and damaged his standing at Anfield.

After returning from France in January 2005, Le Tallec made only seven appearances during the second half of the season. Despite featuring in the Champions League quarter-finals against Juventus, Benitez excluded him from the squad for the final in Istanbul, leaving the player in tears and choosing not to celebrate the victory.
