Spurs’ additions at center haven’t yet changed Luke Kornet’s importance

The San Antonio Spurs added frontcourt depth by drafting centers Jayden Quaintance and Tarris Reed Jr. in the first round of the 2026 NBA Draft. Despite the arrivals of both rookies alongside Victor Wembanyama, center Luke Kornet is still projected to play an essential role for the team in the 2026-27 season.

Kornet signed a four-year, $40.7 million contract with San Antonio in 2025. Following a trip to the NBA Finals, Kornet remains a key presence inside, even after seeing his playing time drop from 21.0 minutes per game in the regular season to 12.9 minutes during the postseason.
