Connor Goldson: Rangers paid for me to leave the club

Former Rangers center-back Connor Goldson revealed that the Scottish club paid him to depart for Cypriot side Aris Limassol in 2024. Speaking on Open Goal, the 33-year-old explained that manager Philippe Clement informed him the club wanted him to leave because his contract was considered too high. Goldson noted he originally wanted to stay to see out the remaining two years of his deal.

According to Goldson, Rangers ultimately paid half of his final year's wages to facilitate his permanent move to Cyprus after Aris Limassol's owner sought financial contributions. Goldson originally joined Rangers under Steven Gerrard and won the Scottish Premiership, Scottish Cup, and Scottish League Cup during his six-year stint.
