Prime Minister Andy Burnham admits Birmingham City plans could give edge in age-old debate

Prime Minister Andy Burnham has praised Birmingham City owners Knighthead for their planned multi-billion redevelopment in east Birmingham. The proposed Sports Quarter features a new 62,000-capacity stadium called The Powerhouse as part of a £3 billion regeneration initiative that also includes entertainment venues, restaurants, and commercial workspaces.

Speaking to BBC Politics Midlands, Burnham addressed the rivalry between Birmingham and Manchester, suggesting Birmingham's club plans alongside HS2 might nudge the city ahead. Meanwhile, club head of infrastructure Nick Smith confirmed the site will no longer house a dedicated training facility due to space constraints and high projected costs.
