ARLINGTON, V.A. — The Washington Capitals are officially ready to kick off their 2026-27 campaign, with the opening night roster set in stone.
The Washington Capitals have finalized their 23-man opening night roster for the 2026-27 NHL campaign. The team reached the official limit by designating defenseman Rasmus Sandin as injured non-roster while he continues recovering from April ACL surgery. Captain Alex Ovechkin leads the squad into his 22nd NHL season alongside alternate captain Tom Wilson, with additional alternates scheduled to be revealed on Wednesday.
Washington opens the regular season on Friday against the Carolina Hurricanes with an overhauled lineup. Offseason additions include Alex Tuch, Jordan Kyrou, Boone Jenner, and Vincent Desharnais, joining rising talent Ryan Leonard, Justin Sourdif, Cole Hutson, and Ilya Protas.
