Detroit Red Wings defenseman Simon Edvinsson has ceased practicing with the team as of Monday after his locker nameplate was removed. Interim general manager Shawn Horcoff confirmed that the restricted free agent is currently barred from team activities until a new contract is signed, though talks remain ongoing.

Edvinsson initially attended training camp on a professional tryout contract to participate in non-contact drills. Reports suggest both sides may be nearing an agreement on a long-term contract with an average annual value between $9 million and $10 million ahead of the regular-season opener.
