‘Experiencing it firsthand at Tottenham’ – Sandro Tonali on pressure of £100m price tag

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Sandro Tonali has addressed the pressure surrounding his club-record transfer fee while drawing comparisons between his experiences at Spurs and the struggles facing the Italian national team. Following criticism after Italy's 2-0 Nations League defeat to Belgium, the 26-year-old stated that experienced players should take the blame to protect younger teammates.

Tonali, who became Tottenham's most expensive signing and top earner after joining from Newcastle United, has made five Premier League appearances in the 2026-27 season. Despite criticism from figures like former scout Bryan King, the midfielder insisted he remains focused on helping new and younger players adapt.
