Columbus traded Kirill Marchenko, Elvis Merzļikins, and Miles Wood to Toronto in exchange for Matthew Knies, Steven Lorentz, Emil Andrae, and a conditional 2027 second-round draft pick. Following the transaction, Marchenko signed a six-year contract extension with Toronto carrying a $12.5 million annual cap hit starting next season.

In addition to the trade, veteran forward Matt Nieto officially announced his retirement after 12 NHL seasons. Nieto concluded his career with 705 regular-season games, 87 goals, and 206 points across stints with the San Jose Sharks, Colorado Avalanche, and Pittsburgh Penguins.
