Wrexham midfielder Ben Whiteman has welcomed the squad's fierce competition for starting places, stating it is vital for achieving promotion to the Premier League. The 30-year-old joined the Championship side from Preston North End ahead of the 2026-27 campaign and is competing alongside Matty James, Ben Sheaf, Lewis O'Brien, and George Dobson for a holding midfield spot under manager Phil Parkinson.

Whiteman has featured in all eight league matches this season, recording seven starts and one substitute appearance. Following a 2-1 win over Southampton, 14th-placed Wrexham sits three points off the Championship play-off positions as they prepare to face Derby County at Pride Park on October 10.
