Former world champion boxer Billy Joe Saunders avoided immediate prison time after Judge Thomas Rochford suspended his 15-month sentence for 18 months at Warwick Crown Court. The ruling follows Saunders' guilty plea to violent disorder stemming from a brawl at a baby shower in Bulkington on November 27, 2021.
In addition to the suspended sentence, Saunders was ordered to complete 200 hours of unpaid community work and pay £1,000 in fines alongside £1,000 in court costs. His barrister, Sebastian Gardiner, argued that Saunders' mental decline and heavy drinking following his career-ending 2021 defeat to Canelo Alvarez contributed significantly to his behavior during the brawl.
