France international Sekou Macalou has refuted reports claiming he has retired from professional rugby with immediate effect. French outlet Midi Olympique previously reported that the 31-year-old Stade Français back-rower had informed teammates of his retirement due to a persistent hip issue, despite having a contract that runs through next June.
In an Instagram response, Macalou clarified that he has made no official announcement regarding his future and criticized others for speaking on his behalf. The 20-cap French international, who has spent over a decade with Stade Français and won the European Challenge Cup in 2017, maintained that any career decision remains his alone to announce.
