Hendriks, 3-time All-Star who overcame cancer, retires after long MLB run

Three-time All-Star relief pitcher Liam Hendriks has announced his retirement from baseball at age 37 via social media. The Australian right-hander noted that physical wear on his arm and elbow prompted his decision to end his 14-season Major League Baseball career.

Hendriks played for six major league clubs, recording 116 saves and a 3.88 ERA across 490 career appearances. After overcoming Stage 4 non-Hodgkin lymphoma diagnosed in December 2022, he returned to pitch for the Chicago White Sox in May 2023, earning the AL Comeback Player of the Year award before undergoing Tommy John surgery later that year.
