The Story in 60 Seconds

The San Jose Sharks have reassigned defenseman Mattias Havelid to their AHL affiliate, the San Jose Barracuda. The 22-year-old blueliner had been listed as an injured non-roster player after dealing with an upper-body injury that sidelined him for the team's rookie showcase, training camp, and preseason games.

Now ready to return, Havelid heads to the AHL without an open spot on the Sharks' 23-man NHL roster. The 2022 second-round pick posted 15 points in 44 games for the Barracuda last season and remains waivers-exempt through the next two seasons under his entry-level contract.
