Not long after acquiring Gervon Dexter in a trade with the Bears, the Falcons are making sure he stays in Atlanta long-term.
The Atlanta Falcons have signed defensive lineman Gervon Dexter to a four-year, $78 million contract extension that includes $46.5 million guaranteed. Atlanta acquired Dexter from the Chicago Bears in a late August trade involving cornerback Clark Phillips and a 2027 fifth-round draft pick. The agreement solidifies Dexter as a central piece of the Falcons' defensive front under general manager Ian Cunningham, who previously drafted him in Chicago.
Dexter's extension continues a massive spending wave by Atlanta, following multi-year extensions for Bijan Robinson, Kyle Pitts, Drake London, and Matthew Bergeron. Although Dexter has primarily served as a rotational defender without a start across his first three games with the Falcons, he has generated a 20.5% quarterback pressure rate in defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich's scheme.
