Everton missed out on European football five times during Manchester City's period of breaches.

Writer Patric Ridge argues that Everton may have suffered the most among rival clubs following Manchester City's reported guilty verdict on Premier League financial charges. Ridge highlights estimates suggesting Everton missed out on almost £29 million in merit payments and lost out on European qualification five times during City's non-compliant seasons from 2009 to 2018.
While acknowledging Everton's own on-pitch shortcomings, the author notes that Manchester City's emergence blocked Everton's upward momentum under David Moyes. Ridge contends that Everton executives should demand severe punishments for Manchester City while ultimately using past frustrations to focus on the club's future.
