Kilmer Group receiving $4.35B from media giant

Rogers Communications Inc. has officially closed the purchase of the remaining 25% stake in Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment from Kilmer Group for $4.35 billion. The transaction gives Rogers complete 100% ownership of MLSE, which controls the NHL's Toronto Maple Leafs, NBA's Toronto Raptors, Toronto FC, the Toronto Argonauts, and Scotiabank Arena.
Following a prior $4.7 billion purchase of BCE Inc.'s 37.5% stake, Rogers plans to create a new business unit called Rogers Sports. Keith Pelley will remain head of MLSE while overseeing Rogers Media, and Mark Shapiro will continue leading the Toronto Blue Jays as the company plans to sell a non-voting minority stake in 2027.
