Birmingham City are in the hunt for a new director of football and have been weighing up their options over recent months.

Birmingham City are interested in appointing Atalanta's director of global development, John Murtough, as their new director of football, according to a report by the Daily Mail. The Championship side are looking to bring the 56-year-old former Manchester United chief back to England, though they would reportedly need to pay compensation to secure his services.
Murtough joined Atalanta in April 2025 after spending over a decade at Manchester United in various executive capacities. Birmingham City have been searching for a replacement since parting ways with Craig Gardner in the summer, with the club currently sitting 10th in the Championship table under head coach Chris Davies.
