If you were boxscore-watching Thursday night’s game between the Edmonton Oilers and Vancouver Canucks, you wouldn’t be able to tell that Alberta’s team was short four members of their top-six. In fact, you wouldn’t think they were missing any players…

The Edmonton Oilers secured an erratic 9-7 victory against the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday night despite missing key forwards such as Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Zach Hyman. Edmonton raced to an 8-2 lead highlighted by early goals from Vasily Podkolzin, Owen Michaels, Evan Bouchard, Ryan Shea, and Leon Draisaitl, along with shorthanded tallies from Connor McDavid and Kasperi Kapanen.
Vancouver mounted a severe comeback in the third period, scoring four unanswered goals behind two tallies from Marco Rossi and another from Elias Pettersson. Goaltender Devon Levi conceded seven goals in his Oilers debut, marking the most goals allowed in a road victory in franchise history as head coach Mike Babcock criticized the team's defensive zone lapses.
