Connor McDavid and Evan Bouchard led the Edmonton Oilers to a wild 9-7 road victory over the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday night. Edmonton built an early 5-0 lead and held off a late comeback attempt by Vancouver. McDavid tallied a goal and four assists for his 15th career five-point game, while Leon Draisaitl scored twice and added an assist.
Bouchard recorded a goal and two assists, bringing his season total to eight points and setting an NHL record for most points by a defenseman in the first two games of a season. Vasily Podkolzin, Owen Michaels, Ryan Shea, Trent Frederic, and Kasperi Kapanen also scored for the Oilers, while Marco Rossi scored twice for the Canucks.
