Jannik Vestergaard's Leicester City contract was terminated in July, and now, the towering defender has decided to retire.

Former Leicester City defender Jannik Vestergaard has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 34. The Danish international agreed to a mutual termination of his Leicester City contract in July 2026 following the club's relegation. In an interview with Danish outlet Politiken, Vestergaard explained that his motivation had waned and felt the time was right to end his playing career.
Vestergaard represented Denmark 59 times and enjoyed a career spanning Germany and England with spells at TSG Hoffenheim, Werder Bremen, Borussia Monchengladbach, Southampton, and Leicester City. Following his exit, Leicester City refreshed their defense under manager Russell Martin, signing Warren O'Hora from Hibernian and Finnish prospect Ilari Kangasniemi.
