Defender Jannik Vestergaard has decided to retire from professional football after mutually agreeing to terminate his Leicester City contract earlier this summer. The 34-year-old Danish center-back opted to end his playing career after struggling to find a new club following Leicester's relegation to League One, admitting in an interview with Politiken that a loss of motivation prompted his decision.
Vestergaard spent five years with Leicester City following a €17.6 million transfer in 2021. Despite receiving offers from clubs in England and Germany, he noted that none could reignite his drive to continue playing.
