During New Orleans Pelicans Media Day ahead of the 2026-27 season, Zion Williamson reflected on his career, candidly stating that he is "not where he needs to be" or wants to be as a player. Erik Roy of Last Word On Basketball reports that Williamson entered training camp at 271 pounds—13 pounds lighter than usual—after offseason training with personal coach Kris Chrisp and assistant God Shammgod.
Heading into his eighth NBA season, Williamson has yet to appear in a playoff game and is now working under new head coach Jamahl Mosley. Roy notes that while Williamson worked on his perimeter shooting and aims to embrace a larger leadership role, MGM Grand projections have set the Pelicans' win total at just 27.5.
