Adams, previously the U.S. soccer captain for the 2022 World Cup, is the “perfect person” to take the role, coach Mauricio Pochettino said.

Tyler Adams has been named captain of the United States men's national team to start the 2030 World Cup cycle. Head coach Mauricio Pochettino announced the decision on Friday ahead of a friendly against Mexico, praising the 27-year-old midfielder as the "perfect person" for the leadership role.
Adams previously captained the USMNT at the 2022 World Cup before veteran defender Tim Ream took over the armband for the 2026 tournament. Following Ream's national team retirement, Pochettino made the decision alongside his coaching staff without a player vote, securing Adams as team leader moving forward.
