Jason MacNeil of Broad Street Hockey suggests that forward Denver Barkey may play a far more vital role for the Philadelphia Flyers than expected. Philadelphia struggled offensively across their first two games of the season, managing only a single point from an overtime loss against the New Jersey Devils after a tough opening matchup against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Barkey began the 2026-27 season on injured reserve after sustaining an injury during an exhibition game against the Washington Capitals. MacNeil notes that while Barkey has only played 53 combined regular-season and playoff games for the club, his absence has been felt as Philadelphia works to fix its early 5-on-5 offensive struggles.
