The New York Yankees have left Aaron Judge off their ALDS roster against the Tampa Bay Rays due to an ongoing calf strain. Despite participating in batting practice, Judge will sit out the series, which writer Josh Benjamin argues is the right strategic move to avoid risking further injury.
According to the writer, keeping Judge off the roster avoids disrupting the current lineup, including designated hitter Ben Rice and first basemen Luis Garcia Jr. and Paul Goldschmidt. Judge has not run bases or played the field in two weeks and is more likely to return for the World Series if New York advances.
