The Story in 60 Seconds

Celtic winger Yang has earned an exemption from South Korea's mandatory 21-month military service after winning the Asian Games gold medal. South Korea secured the title with a 1-0 victory over Japan in the final, courtesy of a goal from Eom Jisung. Yang was an unused substitute in the final after missing the semi-final with a hamstring injury.

As an overage player in the under-23 squad, Yang will now only need to complete basic military training lasting under a month, followed by community service over a three-year period. This alternative mirrors the path taken by Son Heung-Min, who previously completed condensed military training after also winning the Asian Games with South Korea.
