The South African opener hurt his hamstring while fielding in the third ODI at Potchefstroom, ruling him out of the series opener at Kingsmead, Durban.
South Africa opener Tony de Zorzi has been ruled out of the first Test against Australia at Kingsmead, Durban, scheduled to begin on October 9, 2026. The batter sustained a mild hamstring injury while fielding during the third ODI in Potchefstroom. Cricket South Africa confirmed it will maintain an extended 18-player preliminary squad without adding a direct replacement ahead of finalizing the 15-man roster.
De Zorzi becomes the fifth Proteas player to suffer a hamstring injury in the past two months. Marques Ackerman is viewed as a contender to enter the playing XI alongside Tristan Stubbs, Wiaan Mulder, and David Bedingham. Meanwhile, Kagiso Rabada's availability will be assessed following an intra-squad match, whereas Lungi Ngidi, Ottneil Baartman, and Kwena Maphaka remain entirely ruled out of the series.
