The Montreal Canadiens missed out on one of the biggest trades ahead of the regular season, which could open the door for the organization to make a different move.
The Montreal Canadiens are reportedly linked to Winnipeg Jets veteran Mark Scheifele as they look to add a top-six forward after missing out on Kirill Marchenko. According to Bleacher Report's Adam Gretz, Scheifele would provide Montreal with a strong second-line center behind Nick Suzuki, supported by the franchise's significant salary cap flexibility.
However, potential hurdles remain, as Scheifele possesses a no-movement clause and has not requested a trade. Additionally, NHL Trade Talk notes that the Boston Bruins, Minnesota Wild, and Philadelphia Flyers could emerge as rival suitors if the forward becomes available.
