Lyle Odelein, the former Montreal Canadiens defenseman who won the Stanley Cup in 1993 and later became the first captain in Columbus Blue Jackets history, died Friday.
Former NHL defenseman Lyle Odelein, who won the Stanley Cup with the Montreal Canadiens, passed away on Friday at the age of 58. Drafted by Montreal in 1986, Odelein went on to play 16 seasons in the league from 1989 through 2006.
Over his career, Odelein skated in 1,056 regular-season games and recorded 252 points while representing eight different teams. He notably served as the inaugural captain of the Columbus Blue Jackets following the 2000 NHL Expansion Draft.
