Former Montreal Canadiens defenseman and 1993 Stanley Cup winner Lyle Odelein has passed away at the age of 58. As confirmed by The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Odelein died of a heart attack late Friday evening. Drafted by Montreal in 1986, he was a key physical presence on the Canadiens' 1993 championship roster, contributing six points across 20 playoff games during the title run.
Throughout his 1,056-game NHL career, Odelein recorded 252 points while skating for the Canadiens, New Jersey Devils, Phoenix Coyotes, Columbus Blue Jackets, Chicago Blackhawks, Dallas Stars, Florida Panthers, and Pittsburgh Penguins. He also made franchise history as the inaugural captain of the Blue Jackets following the 2000 expansion draft.
