Just under ten years ago, Shayne Gostisbehere scored an overtime winner in Philadelphia in a game between the Flyers and the Carolina Hurricanes. Then, about a month later, he did it again.
The Philadelphia Flyers suffered a 3-2 overtime loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday, salvaged only by goaltender Joseph Woll's 37-save performance. Carolina's Shayne Gostisbehere scored the overtime winner off the post against his former team, while Sebastian Aho scored twice for the Hurricanes. Owen Tippett and Matvei Michkov scored Philadelphia's goals, but the Flyers managed six shots or fewer in every period and remained winless on the power play this season.
The Hockey Writers highlighted key concerns for the Flyers, including an apparent injury to top-pairing defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen, who left after blocking a shot. Head coach Rick Tocchet also shuffled power-play units amid an 0-for-8 start to the season. The writer argues that Woll deserves continued starts as Philadelphia prepares for an upcoming road trip against the Tampa Bay Lightning, Ottawa Senators, and Boston Bruins.
