One team was still playing preseason hockey.

The New Jersey Devils suffered a 6-0 shutout loss against the New York Islanders at UBS Arena on Saturday night. Simon Holmstrom, Brayden Schenn, Bo Horvat, Victor Eklund, Ondrej Palat, and Casey Cizikas scored past Devils goaltender Nico Daws. Head coach Sheldon Keefe noted the team failed a crucial stress test as they dropped their first game of the season.
Through two games, the Devils have struggled to generate offense, failing to score at five-on-five among their forwards. Additionally, New Jersey's primary power-play unit is currently 0-for-9 on the young season. Keefe's squad will look to rebound when they host the Utah Mammoth on Tuesday, Oct. 6.
