Analyzing the New York Mets' front office three years into David Stearns' tenure, writer Robert Colonna argues that the executive structure remains a patchwork of past regimes. Stearns has significantly revamped departments such as player development, amateur and international scouting, and business operations. These overhauls coincide with recent minor league development breakthroughs, including players such as Nolan McLean, A.J. Ewing, and Carson Benge.
In contrast, departments like pro scouting, player personnel, and performance technology retain substantial holdovers from previous front office administrations. Colonna notes that evaluating talent for trades and free agency has produced mixed results under Stearns. Moving forward, the writer suggests owner Steve Cohen and the Mets should allow Stearns to overhaul the rest of the front office in his own image.
