The Story in 60 Seconds

Commentator Martin Brundle praised Lewis Hamilton's remarkable recovery drive to finish on the podium at Sepang after dropping to 17th. Ferrari took a gamble by starting Hamilton on slick tires following a rain-delayed start, which initially left him over a minute behind the leaders as intermediate tires proved superior. Hamilton recovered through the field as track conditions dried out.

Aided by Valtteri Bottas' safety car and George Russell's subsequent retirement, Hamilton battled up to fourth before overtaking Isack Hadjar at turn one to claim third place. The result ended a six-race podium drought for Hamilton, who now trails Russell by 22 points in the drivers' championship standings.
