The Miami Heat defeated the Toronto Raptors 129-105 in their preseason opener behind an impressive playmaking debut from Giannis Antetokounmpo. Playing only 14 minutes, Antetokounmpo tallied nine points, four rebounds, and seven assists, prompting head coach Erik Spoelstra to compare his distribution to Magic Johnson. Toronto played without Kawhi Leonard, who remains sidelined as the team cautiously manages his return to game shape.
Miami's offense flourished despite a scoreless debut from Klay Thompson, who went without a point in 13 minutes. Tim Hardaway Jr. led the Heat with 14 points, while Pelle Larsson added 13 points off the bench. Raptors head coach Darko Rajakovic noted that Leonard is also expected to sit out Toronto's upcoming preseason matchup against the Los Angeles Clippers.
