A massive mistake from Hamlin on Lap 88 could end up being one of the biggest moments of the 2026 season.
Denny Hamlin spun out on Lap 88 during Stage 1 of Sunday's South Point 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, throwing away a likely fourth-place stage finish. Driving the No. 11 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota, Hamlin drifted up the track through turns 3 and 4 before losing control. Because NASCAR did not display a caution flag, Hamlin fell back and finished the stage in 27th place.
Hamlin kept his car away from the outside wall and confirmed over team radio that the vehicle sustained no damage. The spin cost him a chance to capitalize on points rival Kyle Larson's early pit-stop issues, as neither championship contender scored stage points. Chase Briscoe stayed out during an earlier caution to win Stage 1.
