It has been a testing three weeks for Japan. Accommodation woes, transport and logistical nightmares, mismanagement and weather that refused to cooperate – the challenges the Asian Games organisers faced were plenty.
The 2026 Asian Games concluded in Nagoya, Japan, with the ceremonial handover of the Olympic Council of Asia flag to Doha, Qatar, the host of the 2030 Games. Despite encountering numerous logistical hurdles, transport challenges, and adverse weather conditions during the three-week event, the Games officially drew to a close on Sunday at Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium.
China topped the final medal standings with 341 total medals, including 169 golds, while India secured fourth place. Olympic Council of Asia president Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani highlighted that over 350 records fell during the competition, with Qatari equestrian rider Jassim Al Kuwari formally receiving the OCA flag on horseback.
